    • No Advertising: Health and calendar data is never used for advertising or marketing purposes
    • No Selling: Health and calendar data is never sold to third parties

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

    7. Cookies and Local Storage

7.1 What Are Cookies and Local Storage

Cookies and local storage are small pieces of data stored on your device that help websites remember information about you. We use browser local storage (similar to cookies) to store preferences and improve your experience on FitConnect.

    7.2 Cookie Categories We Use

We organize our cookies and local storage into four categories:

    Essential (Required)

These are necessary for the Platform to function and cannot be disabled. They include:

    • Authentication tokens to keep you logged in
    • Security-related data to protect your account
    • Core UI state (such as sidebar position)

    Location Services (Optional)

If you consent, we detect your approximate location to personalize your experience:

    • Purpose: Show coaches near you and display relevant local leaderboards
    • Storage key: fitconnect_user_location
    • Data cached: City, region, and country (e.g., "Harrow", "Greater London", "United Kingdom")
    • Cache duration: 7 days, then refreshed automatically

    Preferences (Optional)

If you consent, we remember your choices to improve usability:

    • Your cookie consent decision
    • Dismissed banners and prompts
    • Theme and display preferences

    Analytics (Optional)

If you consent, we may collect anonymized usage data to improve the Platform. Currently, we do not use third-party analytics tracking. This category is reserved for future improvements.

7.3 How We Detect Your Location

When you grant location consent, we use your IP address to determine your approximate location:

    • Method: IP-based geolocation (we do not use GPS or precise device location)
    • Precision: City or town level only (e.g., "High Wycombe", not your street address)
    • Third-party service: We use ipapi.co to perform the lookup
    • Data stored: Only your city, region, and country are cached locally
    • No tracking: Your IP address is not stored or logged by FitConnect

This location data enables the marketplace to show coaches near you and allows you to view local leaderboards for your town, county, and country.

7.4 How to Manage Your Preferences

When you first visit FitConnect, a consent banner will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can:

    • Accept All: Enable all optional cookies (location, preferences, analytics)
    • Reject All: Disable all optional cookies (essential cookies remain active)
    • Manage Preferences: Choose which categories to enable individually

Your consent decision is stored in fitconnect_cookie_consent and applies immediately. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie Preferences" in the footer or visiting your Privacy settings.

7.5 What Happens If You Reject Optional Cookies

If you reject optional cookies, the Platform remains fully functional with the following differences:

    • Location: Automatic location detection is disabled. You can still manually select your location when searching for coaches or viewing leaderboards.
    • Preferences: Some UI preferences may not persist between sessions.
    • Analytics: No usage data is collected (currently not implemented).

Essential functionality including account access, bookings, payments, messaging, and all coaching features work normally regardless of your cookie preferences.

    8. Third-Party Services

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any information.

    External Shopping Links

FitConnect provides links to external grocery retailers (Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, and others) to help you purchase ingredients for your meal plans. When you use these shopping links:

    • FitConnect only generates shopping list links based on your meal plan ingredients
    • No personal data is shared with grocery retailers by FitConnect
    • Any information you provide to retailers is subject to their privacy policies
    • Purchases, payments, and deliveries are handled entirely by the retailer
    • FitConnect does not receive any information about your purchases from retailers

    9. Children's Privacy

FitConnect is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under 18 years of age. If you are under 18, please do not attempt to register for the Platform or send any personal information to us.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a person under 18, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that a child under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@getfitconnect.co.uk.

We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

For transfers outside the UK and EEA, we rely on adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), or other lawful transfer mechanisms approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

    11. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we need to retain it for legal compliance.
